About Cappoquin Community Development Company

Cappoquin Community Development Company Limited was established in May, 1993. The objective of the company is 'to improve Cappoquin and its environs, physically, socially and economically'. It is a company limited by guarantee and has been granted charitable status by the Revenue Commissioners.

Membership of the company is voluntary and is open to any person willing to invest significant time and effort to achieve the aims and objectives of the company. The Governing Body of the company is elected at each Annual General Meeting by the members to manage the business of the company. An Annual Report including an Income and Expenditure Account is presented at the Annual General Meeting. Copies of Annual Reports are available in the local public library.

Achievements

The company has an excellent record of achievements. Working as sole initiator on some of these projects, or in conjunction with Waterford County Council, Waterford Leader Partnership and other agencies, the following is a list of some of these achievements.

  • 1993 Purchase and renovation of premises for use as company office.
  • 1995 Publication of Cappoquin Development Plan. This was the first non-scheduled town in the County to have prepared a development plan.
  • 1996 Purchased four acres of land to make sites available for private housing within the town.
  • 1996 Town Twinning project with Chanat-la-Mouteyre, France - a similar size town in the centre of France.
  • 1997 Purchase of former Calmark factory premises at Lefanta and conversion into two Enterprise Units.
  • 1997 Establishment of Tidy Team and Anti-litter Campaign
  • 1998 Provision of car park and landscaping at Twig Bog
  • 1999 Published Cappoquin - A Walk Through History the only comprehensive history of Cappoquin from earliest times to the Millennium.
  • 2000 Construction of six additional Enterprise Units at Lefanta, Cappoquin
  • 2001 - 2003 Planning permission received for Cappoquin Community Centre; former Mill Site leased from Waterford County Council and construction commenced.
  • 2007 - John O'Donoghue, Minister for Arts , Sport & Tourism officially opened centre.
  • 2008 - National All Ireland Pride of Place Awards held in Cappoquin Community Centre presented by President Mary McAleese.
