Between Tallow and Youghal in the valley of Knockanore is the birthplace of a distinctive semi-hard type of farmhouse cheese, For over a decade now, full cream cows milk produced from the Lonergan herd is turned carefully by hand into wheels of Knockanore Cheese. Some of these wheels are carefully chosen and smoked using a blend of oak hardwood sawdust in a traditional smoking kiln. All wheels and prepacked wedges are now available with a full range of herbs, spices walnuts and seeds that broaden the range catering for the more adventurous palate.

Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese has won many awards both in Ireland and abroad including a Gold Medal at the British Cheese Awards and the prestigious Ballygowan Food Writers award. Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese is available at many retail outlets throughout Ireland and can be purchased on the farm. There are smoked, garlic and herb flavoured versions and the more mature Ballyneety.
